IMPORTANT: Macro analysis is a reductive analytical system which views music via harmonic motion to and from a target chord or tonal center. Its traditional application involves tonal music based upon “circle-of-fifths” root motion. However, this application can be extended to include “non-tonal” music that involves any sort of regular, directed harmonic motion. Visit http://www.macromusic.org for further information. Explain briefly on a separate sheet of paper how concepts and/or principles of macro analysis are involved in your composition. This is a required part of the entry process.
In the event that I am named Winner in the competition, I agree to the following:
- I will join MACRO upon notification of my award, if I am not already a member.
- I will present a session on my winning composition at the 2011 MACRO Workshop, to be held in Madison, Wisconsin on June 24–25, 2011.
- I will accept a commission from Truman State University’s sponsoring music organizations to compose a new work for Truman State's Wind Symphony I, and will submit the finished score and parts to the competition chair by September 1, 2011. Truman State University will reproduce materials as needed, and has rights to the premiere without charge.
- I will attend the 2011 Truman State University New Music Festival, in late October/early November 2011 (exact date TBA), and will serve as guest composer and clinician for events held during that festival, at which time my commissioned work will be premiered.
